Quiltessentially Clunes is a textile and quilting retretat held in the charming and historic town of Clunes in Central Victoria. A town famous for big ideas, it is the venue for the very popular Booktown, held annually and is now the yearly venue for Quiltessentially Clunes. For four days, and held in the architecturally stunning Town Hall, you can learn techniques of patchwork and quilting, textile projects and many other related techniques. Run by Christine Lethlean, a resident of Clunes, Rae Tefer and I, we provide tutorials, we have a shop selling kits and notions and many other beautiful products provided by the local community. We had a Quilt Hanging in 2016 for the first time, an antique sewing machine exhibition and textile work by local artists, many of which works were for sale. As well as introducing patchwork to the region, we support all the local businesses, including the local patchwork shops and raise money through raffle ticket sales which we donate to the local Clunes community. Email us at with expressions of interest for our next weekend.
The Clunes Town Hall and Court House on Bailey Street was our 2016 Venue. We hope this wonderful old building will pique your interest in the history of Clunes. It is heritage listed and is home to interesting period features both inside and out. Opened in May 1873, it was a symbol of the grandeur and success the village had achieved in the early gold rush days.
